Cooling a computer system or organizing an efficient temperature environment for its components is a relevant and important issue. If the system components overheat, their performance and endurance decrease. As a result, components that operate at excessive temperatures fail faster.
It’s worth remembering: without proper ventilation and cooling, a computer system will become inefficient and may shut down at the most crucial moment due to overload.
Choosing a CPU Cooling System
What are the main criteria to consider besides CPU and cooler mount compatibility? Cooling systems come in different types, shapes, and sizes, with different efficiency ratings, etc. These features affect the results. What should I consider when choosing a CPU cooling system?
Power Consumption or TDP (Watts)
The CPU does not perform any mechanical work. Almost all of the energy it consumes is converted into heat. The TDP value, or how much heat the CPU generates during operation, is included in the CPU specifications. The amount of energy consumed depends on the power of the CPU.
For example: the actual consumption of budget Intel Celeron, Pentium, and Core i3 CPUs is between 20 and 50 W. In this case, there is no need for a powerful CPU cooling system. Intel Core i5 and Core i7 (115× sockets), as well as AMD Ryzen with a TDP of 50 to 100 W. Intel Core i7 (such as Core i7-6850K) and Xeon CPUs, AMD FX-8××× and FX-9××× (the latter can consume up to 300 W when overclocked) consume more than 100 W.
Tip: if you are choosing a cooling system to create a quiet PC, it is advisable to consider a cooler model with a power reserve. If you have a CPU with a TDP of 65 W, we recommend a cooling system with a TDP of 100-150 W. In this case, the fan will not have to spin up too much, even at maximum load. The same is true if you plan to overclock the CPU.
There are three types of coolers in the range of modern CPU cooling. The simplest ones are classic ones with an all-metal radiator. For greater efficiency, tower coolers with heat pipes are used. Heat is removed from the CPU using special copper tubes that are hollow inside and hermetically sealed. Excessive heat is then transferred to the fins of the cooler, from where it gradually dissipates. Enthusiasts are offered liquid cooling systems, in which the CPU heats a special liquid that is transported by hoses and flows to the radiator, where it is then cooled.
2E CPU Cooling Systems
Classic Elementary 2E CPU Cooling Systems
Budget option or classic elementary cooling systems. Compared to the «boxed» cooling (included with the CPU), budget coolers are more efficient in terms of performance, but do not differ significantly. This type of cooling is mostly used in basic office and gaming PCs.
2E Tower Type CPU Cooling Systems
- elementary or basic
- original design
- sophisticated and high-performance
Tower type CPU cooling systems are significantly more efficient due to the large heat sink area. This is the best option for gaming PCs of various levels. Such cooling systems can be either active – with one or two fans, or passive – without a fan or with a hidden fan.
2E Gaming Air Cool (2E-AC120D6-ARGB)
We offer a universal range of 2E Gaming Air Cool CPU coolers, namely the 2E Gaming Air Cool (2E-AC120D6-ARGB) CPU cooling system with RGB (ARGB) backlight and two fans.
Design Features. Quiet and Efficient Fans
Compact cooler with two quiet 120 mm fans: one on the front and one on the back. The fans have eleven blades and a hydraulic bearing. The front fan has a speed range of 800-1,700 +/- 10% rpm and the rear fan has a speed range of 400-1,300 +/- 10% rpm, with a noise level of 33.8 dBA. For comparison, the noise level range perceived by humans is practically inaudible/quiet and ranges from 20 to 40 dBA.
There is no need to change the position of the radiator fans. The fan impeller is already in the correct position.
The hydraulic bearing ensures stable and quiet operation, does not overheat under high loads, and is designed for a long period of active operation.
Parameters and Main Specifications
Aluminum radiator of the cooler with a classic tower shape and a height of 156 mm. The design is compact and does not interfere with the system components placed on the motherboard. 154-158 mm is the optimal height for the cooler that can be placed in ATX and mATX chassis. The radiator has a special black coating containing ceramic particles for active heat dissipation and efficient cooling of the CPU. The TDP of the cooler is 180 W. Thanks to the special design, the radiator plates are protected from deformation. Segments between the plates in the side parts securely fix them in a static position.
DTH (Direct Touch Heatpipes) Technology Application
Six 6 mm copper heat pipes are integrated directly into the base using DTH technology. The design features of the cooler’s polished base increase the heat dissipation efficiency.
The presence and number of heatpipes significantly affects the quality of cooling. The liquid in the heat pipes heats up and turns into steam, removes excess heat from the CPU to the aluminum radiator and then returns to its original state in the form of condensation. Four or more heatpipes is the optimal number for a tower type air cooler.
Compatibility with Modern Sockets and Packaging
The cooler is equipped with a convenient mounting on the current sockets, it is easy to install and dismantle (if necessary), and thermal paste with a thermal conductivity of > 1.63 W/M-K. If you wish, you can replace it with a thermal paste from the 2E range with a higher thermal conductivity and improve cooling performance. The «User’s Manual» for the device contains detailed information on the product’s packaging and installation.
ARGB Backlight as a Decorative Element
Connectors for connecting fans with ARGB backlight: 4Pin/+ 5V 3Pin RGB. You can set the backlight to mono mode (one color) or RGB backlight mode and synchronize it with the backlight colors of the system components when connected to the motherboard. Additionally, a cable is included to synchronize the lighting of both fans.
Bright RGB (ARGB) controlled backlight of two fans, six copper heatpipes, compact standard tower shape of the aluminum radiator with a black coating that provides efficient heat dissipation, a base with direct contact of the heatpipes with the CPU and an affordable price are significant arguments in favor of the 2E Gaming Air Cool (2E-AC120D6-ARGB). An updated version is available with a new reliable universal mount and unchanged quality.
